Introducing S-LAB

The Shared Learning between Austria and Bhutan (S-LAB) project is a collaborative initiative that focuses on promoting sustainability and resilience in the built environment through a socio-technical approach. It aims to address the growing environmental and safety concerns arising from the construction sector by integrating modern building physics, energy efficiency practices, and capacity building. As the first of its kind in Bhutan, S-LAB will establish a state-of-the-art research and training centre dedicated to sustainable construction and building energy performance. The project represents a significant partnership between academia, industry, and government, fostering innovation and inclusive development in Bhutan’s construction and energy sectors.

Aim and Objectives

Aim: To develop human capacity and provide resources to support cutting-edge research and training in building physics and sustainable design.

Objectives:

  • Establishing a modern research and training centre in Bhutan.
  • Developing a micro-credential scheme for advanced diploma-level training using TU Graz’s master’s modules.
  • Promoting applied research and consultancy services tailored to Bhutan’s building sustainability goals.
  • Enhancing knowledge transfer and training in rural areas through JNEC’s outreach network.
  • Encouraging participation from women and disadvantaged groups, promoting equity and gender mainstreaming.
